Vote Absentee

The COVID-19 pandemic threatens many aspects of American life including our right to vote. By voting absentee, you can avoid the polls and keep yourself safe without sacrificing your right to vote.

Every Minnesotan who can vote absentee should do so in the November 3rd, 2020 General Election.

What is absentee voting?

An absentee vote is a ballot cast by a voter who is unable or unwilling to vote in person at their normal polling location on Election Day. If you or someone you know wants to stay home on Election Day, they can apply for an absentee ballot and vote through the mail.

Voting absentee in 2020 will help keep you and your community safe from COVID-19.

How do I vote absentee?

  1. Apply for an absentee ballot by submitting an online application at MNvotes.org, or mailing an absentee ballot application to your county election office. You can find your county election office here. If you are not registered to vote, you can still apply before the registration-in-advance deadline and registration documents will be mailed to you with your absentee ballot.

  2. Receive your absentee ballot in the mail at the address you specified on your application. You can track your ballot here.

  3. Follow the instructions to fill out your absentee ballot. Be sure to avoid mistakes to guarantee your ballot can be accepted.

  4. Package your ballot in the pre-paid envelope, and mail it or drop it off at your local election office. You can return it by mail before 8pm on Election Day or in-person before 3pm on Election Day. If your ballot arrives after this time it will not be counted. You can track your ballot here.
